Anybody who thinks immaturity on the internet started with WoW suffers severely from selective memory. That, or they're really young.

It didn't even start with the internet. I remember the same behavior in BBS door games when people were gaming with 1200 baud modems decades ago. Online anonymity plus pvp competition plus immaturity has always done things like this, and always will. The difference is mostly scope, and how unlikely people are to have any consequences for their actions.

I miss playing in TDA back in 04 all those years ago. You played with many of the same people over an over making it a somewhat tight knit community. The only mmo that I remember not having an "elitist" crowd was FFXI on release while people were still trying to form successful NA linkshells. I could see EQ1 being the same way, but that game looked like eye cancer to me.

in WoW, I don't think you can trash talk the other team. Which is why I like this game a lot more.

I can't remember a game (because its never happened) where at least 1 of the players wasn't "ownin' dis bich like a baus" whatever the hell that means....Every single game, ranked or not, i play has some idiot swinging his epeen around like he's somehow Superior because he's able to remember 4 buttons and when to push them.

I remember going days some times weeks playing EQ1 and not finding someone like that. I blame EZ mode games like WoW for this....

was league ever free of this World of Warcraft Mentality?
I'd just like to point out as an ex-WoW player, WoW PvP was far more complicated than League of Legends PvP. Less strategic, but certainly not easier. For example, in this game I press a grand total of six buttons that affect combat, five if I'm running teleport instead of some other summoner, in WoW as a successful PvPing Unholy Death Knight I had trouble filling up my keyboard with easily accessible keybinds, eventually ending up with about 50 different buttons and button+modifiers and so on to push to be able to use all my abilities.

What makes League of Legends hard is map awareness and tactical thinking. It's a completely different skill set. And it's not like this 'mentality' is anything new even outside of gaming, before video games were around people would do the same thing with any other competitive sport.

Hey man, don't dis all 12 year olds, I was respected in my guild and had friends from 15 to 26 years old when I was 12 and playing WoW. Also, I can go quite a few games without encountering jackasses (granted I rarely ever play ranked.) Can't stop ******bags from being ******bags though, and they're in damn near every video game ever, so don't be surprised when you run into them while playing the most popular game in the world atm.
