Why does it take so long to load the game? Usually there are 2-3 slow computers out there in each game and it can take about 5 minutes before the game even gets started.

It's the same MAP that needs to be loaded into memory, the only difference which Champions to include.

Is there a way to start the loading of the game, prior to getting to loading screen?


What not to do:
Don't fully load the game, as summoners do need at least a few seconds to look at the enemy line-up and summoner skills. Maybe only pre-load only 50-75% of the game.



PS: If you keep the painful long Load screen, add some sort of chat to the loading screen, so at least teams can communicate strategy prior to the game starting. If you're concerned that this would make loads slower when additional bytes of text get sent... then have a limit so that spamming is prevented.

Think you answered this yourself.

Pre-load or not, it will take just as long on the slower machines. Riot can't do anything about this, unless they were to send new hardware to anybody with an old/slow machine.

Well if the game takes the slow computers 5 minutes to load the map, it would be reduced to 2 minutes because it's pre-loaded. Sounds good. Everyone is happy because the game will start quicker because the impact of slow computers would be greatly minimized.

the maps for this game are so small and standard, I have no idea why it takes so long to load. The map itself should be stored client-side... the only thing that should have to happen during a load screen is server connectivity and the variables for the game (I mean differences... not programming variables). Yes, there is a difference between fast computers and SSDs over slower computers, but to load a small map like this should only take 30 seconds on a very slow computer. I don't get it... what's going on behind the scenes that takes a couple minutes to load?
