@Pendragon: So is the main cause for delay just that riot desires a custom "my account" page and that page has yet to be designed? I think it would be helpful to explain why adding a time zone drop down box to the current "My Account" page couldn't be accomplished in a short period of time.

Alot of theses seem to be running an almost unmodified version and are able to handle massive amounts of users/posts.
This is a list of forums that have a million or more posts, EVER, to put it into context - just in the month of july, even with our website downtimes we've had ~400k posts so far just on the north american forums.

Even still - while a lot of these forums are using seemingly unmodified versions of vbulletin, the reality is that none of them are ACTUALLY using unmodified version of vbulletin.

Example: http://www.advrider.com/forums/

Notice how they're using vbulletin 3.5.2 even though the latest version is 4+. This is typically because the amount of work it takes to port all of the scale fixes to a new version is too much

There are massive amounts of mods that exist for vbulletin optimizations
http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/optimiz...tin-server.htm
http://forum.vbulletinsetup.com/f7/o...load-2148.html
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=237325
http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-7880

etc etc.

In order to return search to the forums, we're actually going to be writing something based on an existing vbulletin addon that complete revamps the vbulletin search system
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=127868

Unfortunately we can't use the existing addon - because it's not compatible with our version of vbulletin, and porting over all of our scale mods would be a massive undertaking

This, sir, was an excellent response. I have no idea why it was downvoted. More like this please

i think one of the reasons they scale it back is so they dont have to constantly monitor people like me who continually try to have the most obscene avatar possible

Emotional vs Rational, it's alright I understand completely.

If I were in a users shoes and didn't understand my side of the coin I'd be upset too.

There's always more that I want to do, and the motives are pure - but you can't please everyone.

I have no idea why this post was down voted after putting up with the **** from demanding players who most likely havent paid a cent, and providing a perfectly logical response. +1 for the tolerance

I appreciate the response Pendragon, it has a lot of merit to it. I still feel that locking users out of certain things is a bad idea, especially in the manner that you guys are doing it.

I realize why you may want to block out the UserCP, though I think you would be better off just optimizing it...regardless, when we go to something like that and see that our IP has been logged, even if it isn't true, is a sick joke. You give us the impression that we are unimportant and that you care more about controlling us than providing us features.

We will have to move off of vbulletin - we're still exploring alternatives, but at our current growth trajectory the cost to keep it standing would be greater than the cost to build new software with the features that we want. This has been expected since the beginning.

Some features in vbulletin we don't want (such as social groups) because they don't align themselves well with our product (Leauge of Legends) as a whole.

vbulletin is often used as a standalone piece of community software - which is why it includes many of these features. In contrast - our community is built around a game (League of Legends) and we have features planned that are not synergistic with many of the stock features of vbulletin from a quality of experience perspective.

To touch on a few individual items
Avatars: We have plans to expand on the summoner icon system (unlockable, special rewards, etc). The intent is that your summoner icon will be your avatar, and if you have a special icon, you get a special avatar on the forums as well.
Signatures: This one is a philosophy perspective, I just don't want them. They're ugly. I do want user customization options though, and we're going to be introducing some for the forums that will not be as flexible as signatures, but will still allow you to represent you. I personally think that extensive flexible signatures detract from the readability of forums
Private messages: Huge harassment and privacy concerns for me here. I'd like to eventually have a user to user mail system in PVP.net that's extended onto the website and would replace the functionality of PMs though
Time zone editing: I want it, we're bringing it back, etc.

Are things slower than you'd like them to be? Sure.. they're also definitely a lot slower than I'd like them to be. You guys have to realize that having bad experiences here is far worse for me than it is for you. I'm hiring people as fast as we can to get more stuff. If you know any web developers or skilled graphic designers, have them apply!

The IP logging is there because the only reason that anyone is viewing that page is if they're fishing around for stuff that we've removed access to.

I think we can agree that it's apparent that we've removed access to the UserCP. The only reason anyone is ever going to get to that page is if they're fishing around, or if someone else who was fishing around brings them to it.

Or, you could say "Sorry this feature is currently unavailble. For questions or concerns, please contact Riot Games at support@riotgames.com".

Instead, you choose to sound like a bunch of controlling Orwellian moderators that is "out to get us". Especially seeing as how you are pretty much the face of the forums, it isn't necessarily a good image for you to portray.

Even on top of that, there are other solutions you could do. Use your heads. I'm sure you could utilize apache mod_rewrite and set up a simple redirect in your .htaccess file so that the URL isn't even reachable, and that is just one of many simple solutions.
