Here's a small list I compiled from some of the stuff you said so far:

Important things for applying to Riot
1) Schooling
-It's recommended to have good education, usually in the form of graduating from university/college.
-Not sure if marks in school are taken into account, or graduate school for that matter.
-The area of study isn't the most important part but you can learn necessary tools for the Riot industry (i.e Problem solving)

2) Experience
-In the form of work experience, doing past jobs that will help benefit you when you work at Riot.
-Also comes in the form of exceptional talent, due to doing something 'spectacular' maybe in the form of building your own game in your free time. This can lead to being able to by-pass the work experience and be taken right after schooling (the dream).

3) Passion
-Should have a love for the game (in this case League of Legends) and always want to see it grow and develop.
-Fit in the position that you want, don't try to squeeze through the cracks of another position just because you may have the skill set in that area to get a job at Riot.

4) Competition
-You are not the only one applying, there's more applications than Riot can handle, if you think you were a star in university then you're probably being measured against thousands of other stars.
-You need to stand out. Good grades only gets you so far.

Is there anything I missed? Also if you haven't said it explicitly; is there anything you'd want to add to this list?
Hey Marth╬╝,

Thanks for compiling this list!

I just want to clarify a few things:

Education
- Area of study is important if you're looking to get into something specific. For example, if you want to be a gameplay engineer, chances are you'll need a solid background in computer science. This background doesn't always come from formal education, but it does help to have something established to guide you.
- 'Good education' is what you make of it. Going to an Ivy League school doesn't guarantee you'll get a good education if you're not willing to put in the effort.

Experience
- You can also get experience while still in school. Internships, work coops, and projects are all really good places to start gaining experience.

Passion
- Love for games* FTFY. It'd be cool if everyone loved League of Legends. The reality of it though is that League isn't the right game for some people. But if you love games [RPG, MMORPG, FPS, RTS, or whatever else is out there] and want to add value to the general gamer population, that's a huge plus.

I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I missed, but I want people to explore the thread. Lots of good questions. Answers without context isn't always useful

Thanks again for compiling this list!

Hey Almorada,

If not now, I'm sure we'll need some kick ass lawyers in the future. Keep an eye out for a posting on our Careers page!

After doing the magical ctrl+f search for every job available(I love ctrl+f search, makes life so much easier) I discovered a writer position under marketing, but I'm not entirely sure if that's the position I'm looking for. There was also some E-sports writer thing, but I don't really think of myself as a script writer, I'm more of a "think of joke/gag and crank out a 1500-2300 word short story about it," kind of writer.

Some more questions though.

1. If I wish to apply for multiple positions (that community content thing looks awesome, getting to discover all the amazing League art and music so other people can enjoy it just sounds spectacular) would I submit multiple applications, or just include in my email that I am applying for multiple positions so I'm not bogging down your internal email with multiple emails from the same person (not trying to look desperate or anything)

2. If I wish to apply for a position that does not even exist yet (transcribing professional matches for the deaf/hard of hearing for example) what would be the proper course of action for that?
Hey Shattered Clock,

There's a chance that the particular position you're looking for [lore writer] might not be fully defined from our side yet. If that's the case, you might have to wait until something is posted. However, I do know for a fact that our writers are extremely versatile and can jump from writing lore, scripts, and everything in-between. This being so, if you feel like you're a fit for the Marketing Writer position as defined in the job posting, you might want to try applying for that.

To answer your questions:

1 - You would have to submit a new application for each position you're interested in
2 - This is a better question for our LinkedIn page. From just your description of this particular position, it seems to me that it would add a lot of value to some members of the community. With regards to your particular example, the part where it gets away from the Recruiting side of things is whether or not it's a writing/writer's initiative or eSports or maybe both!

Hi Chezai, I'm a high-school senior this year going into Mechanical or Aerospace engineering and I was wondering if looking into your company would be worth my while. Clearly you guys aren't an engineering firm but I remember reading Riot appreciates a rigorous education and the willingness to learn. Of all the fields engineering proves versatility and competence in my opinion and I would be interested in knowing your thoughts.

This thread is fantastic and I'm super late to the game but here goes nothing!

A couple of questions that I'm not sure were asked here or covered on LinkedIn:

1. How important is a strong online presence to Riot? I've heard the trend is moving away from having a more low key social media presence and toward offering some insight to personality and character through these forums. I applied about a week ago and I'm worried updating LinkedIn now would tip off my current employer that I've been looking to move.

2. How open are current Rioters to communication on LinkedIn? My experience is in Project Management and some of the Rioters in this field I've found on LinkedIn actually reference the fact that they're currently looking to fill roles. I've attempted to connect with them as a result and I'm hoping this doesn't come off as too intrusive.

I hope to hear back from someone soon but if not, like many others, I appreciate all the dialog and have found some of this really helpful.

Hello everyone. I would love to apply for an internship for narrative writing and esports.

I'm wondering what exactly are they looking for in applicants? What experiences would qualify me for a "narrative writing" internship or even esports? I follow esports very closely and even have some critiques regarding plays made by teams(Tk for example). As for narrative writing, I am absolutely in love with Riot lore and would love to get my hands dirty playing around with Runeterra!

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Good Luck guys!
