There's been games where I'm jungling and the enemy jungler just steals my creeps/buffs and I can't manage to kill them because they either escape with ease or kill me with ease and my team is too slow to come and help. Then I find myself in a position where I can't gank because I'm under leveled and can't farm because I'd die. Wards don't usually help much since I don't have enough gold and/or they still manage to take my farm and escape easily even with vision.

So my question is which junglers are good at counter jungling and how exactly do I go about doing it without getting killed/caught?

farm their jungle
steal buffs
strategic wards

basically make their jungler's life hell

Champs with fast clears are good for counter-jungling

Ward their buffs and time them if you aren't there to steal them immediately.

The best counter junglers are the ones who can either farm super fast and take the buff before your opponent gets there, or those who can just kill them when they do get there.

Shyvana, Nunu, Udyr are all good choices.

You also want to look at junglers who can wall hop or otherwise have massive escape. Shyvana post-6 has her dragon form leap ^and^ she clears fast, which is what makes her such a good counterjungler. Shaco's pretty infamous for his counterjungling too, with his myriad of escape and trick moves, and his boxes to track the enemy jungler movement while he's lurking in the enemy jungle.

The biggest key to counterjungling, though, is keeping track of when the enemy buffs are up. You want to either be there the second they respawn to sneak them, or you want to know when the enemy gets there. Remember buffs are on a 5 minute timer, and if you don't know when it died but get vision, the icon will pop up on the minimap when it's respawned.

Getting counterjungled yourself can be problematic. Either it's one of the high escape junglers who is like "oh you caught me and have a 50/50 of beating my smite, excuse me while I hop over the dragon wall with your buff", or it's a duellist jungler like Udyr who will beat your face in and then possibly beat the face in of the mid laner who comes to stop him after you're already dead. You've got to ward, ping it as soon as you see it, and hope your laners respond. That's part of why I don't like lower ranked jungling, nobody ever responds while you're getting murdered by an Udyr deep in your own jungle, except maybe a feeble poke on the way out while he dashes off alternating between bear and turtle. If you're getting counterjungled by a duellist, you've got to keep warded and ^hope^ your laners come. If you're getting counterjungled by an escaper, you've got to know your timers better than they do, and not let them sneak a buff and run off before you can get there. You want to be there to fight them or chase them off or buy time for laners.

Ward their jungle, watch timers to steal buffs.

If you see them in lane top or bottom, take their creep. If they are top, take their wolves, bottom, their wraiths and golems (without getting minion vision on you of course).

Counter ganking is simply being aware of the general area of the enemy jungler and putting yourself in his shoes. Would you be running to gank your own bot lane now? If yes, he will probably be thinking the same thing and when he shows up, show yourself and beat him back, usually in your favor.

Only you know when your jungle spawns, if you're against a strong counter jungler, mix up your jungle timers, start blue when they think you start red. Their jungler will show up to your red at 7:30 expecting it to be up when in fact it's your blue that just spawned and you're taking it harassment free.

A big mistake a lot of junglers make is making their whereabouts known, you walk through a ward or show up in lane, their jungler now know exactly what camps they can now steal.

I agree with most of the people here! Wards are the key. Another thing you can do is learn the timing of the buffs. This doesn't work for every jungler, but it is important if you have no wards.

Caution: This is a little more risky without wards.

First buff spawns at 1:54-1:55, and most junglers have help with it, so it's cleared without smite at around 2:00.

This also sets the first buff to spawn at 7:10 - 7:20

Second buff (Assuming the jungler went straight to it) will be taken around 2:30-2:45, and this is when they hit level three.

Knowing these timings allow you to have an idea about where the enemy is at, and where he is about to gank. So, if he's at his blue, you may be able to steal his wraiths. If he's up top, you can take out his wraiths, golems or even red.

But I recommend you ward so you don't get caught and give those free kills.
