Tbh, I have no idea what it takes to be a Xelnath or Xypherous, but legend has it that Xelnath appears if you say his name backwards 3 times in the dark whilst lighting 3 black candles...

If that doesn't work, you can definitely do research into the field. I know I repeat this a lot throughout the thread, but doing your research into the industry and positions you're interested in is the first step. There are lots of gaming blogs, forums, newsletters, sites, etc. that are worth taking the time to look through. Additionally, game designers love interacting with the community, seek them out, engage them in conversation, and listen to their stories. Hope this helps!
I know Xelnath has a game design blog that I personally learned a lot from: http://alexanderbrazie.blogspot.com/

I've decided to just go ahead and clean up it up and send it in. This is my chance to make something extremely good happen, and even if i get told no i want to take the chance.

Thanks for everything.

I really want to do project management/business administration, but not if companies like Riot and others look down on the technical schools. I personally like many others cannot afford an education at Digipen or one of the other elite schools that many firms hire from.
Hey ShiverMePenguins,

To my knowledge, there's no preference with regards to schools. The teams hire based on the merits of the individual, not the institution they attend.
Find ways to obtain experience in PM outside of school. Hone your skills. PM and biz admin are areas which you can gain experience in quite easily as most employers like it when individuals take initiative to plan and execute projects that would benefit the business. Reading up on your areas of interest and doing side projects will also give you the experience you need.

First thank you for all of your responses so far in this thread. I'm sure you've made a lot of people happy by answering their questions. I have been very interested in the work that Lyte and his team have done and really have just been impressed by how as a company Riot is able to be so focused and dedicated to improving player experience for such a huge player base. I'm not tech savvy really, but I love examining and looking at the reasoning behind how people think and act, both at an individual level, group level, and societal level.

While I love thinking on this topic, it has always been on my own time or in a few classes outside my major that I have taken that touched upon the matter such as an anthropology class where we studied the growing Muslim immigrant groups in Europe. As such I don't really feel like I have the experience needed to work in player support or in player behavior beyond my years of experience as a gamer and through personal relationships I have with those around. I don't know if you have any suggestions as to what kind of experience I should try and get if I want to apply to Riot or if you think I should try and apply anyways and see what happens, but I would love to hear some feed back on this. I hate seeing forum posts about when people have negative experiences and I would love to help improve how happy the community can be and in game experiences in general, I just don't know how to do that right now.
Hey EvilTreeSpock,

Identifying something you're passionate about is step 1. From the sounds of it, you kinda have it figured out

You'll find the Player Support Behaviour Specialist position here. I'm not sure what your background looks like, but if you think you meet [or exceed] the job requirement, it might be worth applying.

Being a gamer [and in particular a LoLer] is very important. You definitely have that going for you. However, having previous experience in a service industry/customer support is imperative. Our Player Support team works at a furious pace to answer all requests which come in. If you have little to no experience, you probably won't be able to deal with the volume.

Thank you so much Riot Chezai for the courteous reply. It's good to hear that a technical education wouldn't be counted against me should I ever attempt employment at Riot. If you would not mind, there is another question that I have. Would Riot as a software firm, be looking for people with extensive experience in project management for software work, or would non-profit organizations Be a good notch on my belt?

The reason that I ask is because I have much experience in that field already for community outreach and running daytime operations for many assistance programs, and will continue to do so. Would adding this experience to my resume positively affect my marketability?

Glad I could be of some assistance

Project management is extremely important at Riot. With all the awesome things being created and projects needing to be managed, we definitely need people who are awesome at project management. I'm using the words 'project' and variations of 'manage' quite liberally because I really want to drive the 'we love our PMs' across ^^

That being said, we have PMs who specialize in different areas. Your best bet would be to jump on our Careers page and look at the different specialized PM roles. That'll give you a better idea as to what they're looking for. Take the Associate Project Manager [Game Production] role for example, it asks that you have PM experience in the gaming industry [first bullet point]. Any and all relevant experience is welcome. GL HF!

Hey Chezai,

Are there internships for people who are more into IT? Like security/networking stuff? My degree (CIT)requires that I do an internship for a semester in a related field and I wasn't sure if all the teams who take interns were game design related. Thanks!

Hey 50mm3r,

I have no idea which teams are taking on interns at this time, but if you keep your eyes on our careers page and internship page, you'll be able to get all the deets and updates as they are released.

Ok, so I'm in college at Virginia State University. I want to be a game designer and make my own game! I have the world map drawn major towns/cities, I have races you can be. I download a few programs trying to teach myself how to make the characters/environment it takes a long time for one person U.U I going to college because i want to get better at the making games part. Vsu doesn't have a Game Design department... so i been told. They put me in computer engineering. which i think its not going to help me in becoming a great game designer. One day in class i was bored and i was drawing a few pictures and my teacher saw it and told me to stay back after class. she said that i am a really great drawer and i should switch my major to becoming and artist or something like that. she also said it looks like i really love drawing and i do. So my question is... Is computer engineering going to help me become a great game designer so i can join riot? All i want to do is help make a game or make my own game. I'm a great artist i won best artist in my graduating class in high school. Also my art teacher from there said I'm really good at drawing and possibly that I might be the best one in school. So I really want to be in the gaming industry. So can you give me so feed back :3 Oh I'm 19 and i can draw anything! But there is always room to learn more. I sent a picture i draw of friend

Chezai I'm on fall break from college now, and I planned to apply to a whole bunch of support jobs that are Latin American-related because I'm fluent in Spanish and really love the culture (I've taken college classes ranging from salsa dancing to 16th-century Spanish literature, I've done community service trips to Costa Rica and hosted a foreign exchange student from Spain.) I really enjoy helping others and I'm majoring in Computer Science, but unfortunately several listing were taken down in the last couple days (i.e. Latin American Tech Support Specialist & Player support generalist) and I would still really like to apply for these jobs. There are plenty of other positions I'm interested in at Riot, but I think I could do more for the company if I could also use my Spanish and my experience in Latin American culture. :\

Is there anything I can do/anyone I can contact directly (I don't really want to email this to info[AT]riotgames.)?
