Morgageddon checks back in a bit late.

It's done! Waiting for Cap'n to sign off and it'll be up!

Morgageddon finally posts the next chapter. Real life has taken a lot of his attention and work, apologies.

“I have a better idea,” Dirk said quickly, assessing the situation with a quick and angry glance. “How about all of you put your egos aside, put your weapons down and focus on the task at hand?”

“I have a far better one. I’d rather get rid of this man who complains at the fact life dealt him a poor hand.” M’s hand pressed harder into Marvelous’ neck, cutting just a little deeper into his skin than before. “Since I won’t let any of you screw up Cecil’s new life. I kill him, the bar-hopping broad will kill me, and Cecil will be safe. That's a far better idea than whatever you have.”

“Don’t.” Janna said quickly, trying to move close to calm M down, but she was forced to stop as M twisted Marvelous towards her with a jerk, eliciting a sharp gasp of pain from Marvelous. Sarah’s gun followed M through the spin, still steadfastly pointed but a few inches away from his head.

“You know I protect my family.” M said sternly, knowing he could be hurting the one person he cared most about with his words. “And right now, I can ensure it remains safe and sound by killing one wanted ex-Summoner, a questionably aligned Champion, and a few others.”

“I’ve had enough of this ****.” Dirk said angrily as he strode forward across the room.

“Stop right there.” M said, twisting Marvelous around to put the author between him and Dirk.

Dirk’s response was a yell of power as he dropped to his knee and punched the floor. The magical shockwave blasted Sarah, M and Marvelous apart, sending all three flying. Maokai, reacting admirably quick, moved to ensnare Sarah and Marvelous, knowing the crazy ex-Summoner was about to do something far more stupid.

M landed on his feet to his credit, but even with his enhanced speed he didn’t manage to take a single step before Dirk’s next spell slammed into his gut, folding him in two. A few thundering footsteps later and he was slammed onto the floor, the crazed and angry Dirk holding his fist not four inches away from M’s face, hand engulfed in hot flames which was already causing M's face to sweat.

“You will listen. All of you.” Dirk uttered dangerously, stalling Janna’s and Viktor’s shouts. “I will not let your pissant argument stall this any longer. I’m tired of everyone fighting over petty concerns when there is something far greater than you or me needing our help. You will give me the hexcore, the airship, and you will swear under oath that Marvelous is not the thief everyone says he is. In return, you get Viktor’s file. That’s it. That’s all we’re here for, and all I care to put up with.

“You can listen to me now and follow my orders, or I will remove you from the problem and find someone who does.” Dirk threatened. “I will not fail again, and I’ll do everything on my own if I have to. Know that.”

M looked up at the blazing first and then into Dirk’s eyes, seeing the cold hearted gaze and knowing that one wrong move would cause his head to painfully combust. Then he noticed the tiny seep of blood on Dirk’s shirt as a small oval stain began to form on the woolen fabric.

“You’re bleeding.” M said, pointing briefly and slowly with a finger at Dirk’s shoulder.

“I don’t care.” Dirk replied honestly. “This is nothing compared to what’s happened before. Now either get Janna to give us those items, or I’ll steal them myself. What will it be?”

“Janna, would you get him the items we agreed upon?” M asked cordially. "I think we can avoid some un-pleasantries this way, for all of us."

“Right. Just everyone calm down.” Janna carefully floated back into the recesses of her apartment, aiming to grab the hexcore and the control column for her airship as fast as possible.

“Dirk, this is highly irregular.” Viktor said, and would have continued but for the hot glance of Dirk staring at him. “I see. I will wait.”

“I’m done playing games, and I’m done with people ignoring my attempts to help.” Dirk pushed M away from him as he let the man slump to the ground. Then he got back up and began to limp back to the elevators, leg annoyed at him for his leap. “Meet me at the hanger as soon as you have the control column and core. Maokai, would you please come with me? We may have to prep the ship to leave and I'll need someone large to help.”

“Surely.” Maokai replied, releasing his hold on the stunned Sarah and Marvelous. “Let’s go, amusing Summoner, and I thank you for asking instead of demanding. There are so many people who believe they can just order plant life around. There was this one time…”

Dirk and Maokai walked into the elevator, headed to the bottom floor, with Maokai's story in full speed even though it seemed Dirk really didn't care to listen to it.

"And he walked back into my forest with an axe. Like an axe would be able to chop me down." Maokai's laugh was slow and low, and his branches snapped with amusement. However, Dirk didn't seem to react to the story and joke at all, and so he tilted forward. “I do not claim to know your nature, but it seems you have a bee hive hidden in your bark.” Maokai said, looking at Dirk strangely.

Dirk looked at Maokai and then back to his shoulder, needing to press a hand into it to slow the seep of blood. Then he spoke after a few moments.

“Can you believe this is Viktor’s remedy to fix my shoulder? ‘Let’s just shove a brand onto it, that’ll fix it.’ Never trust a robot to be a doctor.” Dirk ripped off a portion of his pants and tied it around his shoulder with a grunt of pain. "He'll think you're a hunk of tin."

“I see you do not want to talk about it.” Maokai said wisely, closing his eyes in contemplation as he nervously twisted in the elevator, not liking being away from the sun or the open air for so long.

“Nope.”

“That is fine with me. You are still amusing.” Maokai said contentedly.

“So…” Marvelous didn’t quite know what to say, or even do after seeing Dirk storm off with the giant tree.

“I’m sorry for calling your girlfriend a bar-hopper.” M shook his head, rolling his eyes. “I suggest you keep your eyes on your boss, since he seems apt to murder both of you if something goes wrong again. I sure wouldn't want to work under him.”

“Thanks.” Marvelous rubbed the tiny cut on his neck. “He’s not usually so…”

“Crazy?” M asked sarcastically. "Deranged? Insane might lend well to that as well."

“Well…yes.” Sarah said hesitantly. “He’s been through a lot lately though.”

“You don’t need to tell me a sob story. His doesn’t even come close to ours.” M replied coldly. “Did he lose his family, sacrificed his childhood to save his remaining friends and family and spent most of his life struggling to survive?"

“Yes.” Viktor replied, shocking all of the rest.

“What?” Marvelous asked.

“I have always been interested in the Summoners, and I have amassed a great many files on many of them. His history, to say quickly, can be considered as ‘painful’ as yours M. In fact, there is a high chance that your fight reminded him of earlier failures, generating the outburst you just saw. The remainder could be due to a possible mixture of hunger, tiredness, annoyance, sexual tension and despair.”

“That certainly narrows it down.” Sarah shook her head, then felt sorry at the joke.

“Here.” Janna breezed back into the room, carrying a large crystal and an odd looking box. “The prototype hex core. The control column goes into the airship, at the Captain’s station. It’s very simple to fly, you shouldn’t have any issues with it.”

“Thanks.” Marvelous said honestly as he took both, handing the hex core over to Viktor. “Can you use that to track the stone?”

“Upon preliminary glances, this should yield the proper energy output and resonance frequencies.” Viktor said after several moments. “It is satisfactory.”

“And I’ll swear that Marvelous is not the thief, but due to the interests of safety, I will not divulge who it is, since that’d be implicating me.” M pointed a finger back at the group. “I said it before. Keep an eye on that man. He’s likely to get you all killed. If you were smart, you’d cut loose and run right now.”

“If we leave him, the entire world will suffer.” Sarah replied back, believing in her statement.

“And if you don’t, you all will.” M said coldly before he strode away, deep into Janna’s apartment, leaving her with the rest.

“Well, this was…horrible.” Janna admitted.

“It was not ideal.” Viktor replied. “It is…good to see you operating well again Janna.”

“Thanks. If you could return the hex core intact, you’d save me a lot of research and time again.” Janna said as she watched them move back into the elevator, knowing staying much longer would continue to be awkward.

“I will try.” Viktor promised before the door closed and they started down towards the ground floor.

“So…what’s wrong with Dirk?” Sarah asked Viktor.

Viktor’s eyes turned to regard Sarah, staring for a few moments as he debated what to reveal.

“I think that is a question better asked to him. I only know his past because of my research. You should know it because he trusts you to tell it.” And with that said, Viktor turned his attention back to the hex core.

“Do you think he’s going to get us all killed?” Sarah asked Marvelous quietly.

“No. But I think he’s going to get himself killed.” Marvelous replied. “And we won’t know how to help him until it’s too late.”
