Wow... SUCH a harsh penalty for something so obviously against the rules... I bet other people will REALLY be deterred from doing the same thing...

I hope my sarcasm is making it through alright.

I don't think anyone else here that knows how to do it is going to risk putting details up for people. There is a wiki about it though.

To be honest it's surprisingly easy to do for anyone with a little knowledge, or a spare few minutes to google. It's also not exactly hard to defend against either. In this case they mentioned it was a dos though, and not a ddos. That's much easier to prove, and is usually the mark of a complete noob/script kiddie.

If they haven't found proof yet then it's probably not true. I don't know who robertxlee is, but I'm assuming that he has logs at least. There are ways around that too, but from the sounds of it whoever did this isn't very good.
I forget the name for inferring evidence based on what actual evidence is there, but if this was in a court of law, and Robberts lawyer could do so, with ease i might add, it would end in Hexo going to jail. The evidence is there, and if you can connect the dots to draw a box, you can connect them here to place Hexo as the guilty party. You cannot confirm, nor deny 100%, because no packets were anylized by Robbert, or someone who could read an ip address. So we can only infere. Regardless of whether or not he was the one who DoS/DDoSd Robbert isnt the problem, its that he threated to do it.

I can't accurately speak to him threatening or not. I am only providing information to people on why having more "evidence" is probably not going to happen. In the case of a simple dos though you don't need to go that deep. It's pretty easy to see if you know what you are looking for. If this were just a month ago though there should still be logs available. I keep them for 6 months, and most keep them longer. I still have some from years ago.

I agree with you for the most part though. Even if it was a simple dos attack finding the attacker wouldn't be that hard. I suppose unless there was some obvious connection between the two, proving he was responsible would be a challenge.

Personally if I were going to attack someone I wouldn't let them know about it ahead of time. That's the mark of either a) joke, or b) complete noob. Consider for a moment if you were about to launch an attack, would you warn them ahead of time?
