Amumu and malphite take zero skill.

Cassiopeia has earned the title of the hardest champ in league to master, Annie need to actually build items, and needs to time her rotation if she wants an aoe stun, which is not always optimal, leona is a joke interms of damage output and her aoe stun is actually balanced, see it doesnt take up an entir escreen, its not INSTANT, and you can ****ing dodge it if youre fast enough. galio ult doesnt do the damage that amumu can.

Amumu has a percent based aoe dot, aoe damage skill that reduces incoming damage and reduces cooldown everytime he is hit, and a giant aoe. He can build whatever the hell he wants and still be a tank.

Galio has to build exclusive mr to do well, malphite has to do exclusive armor.

Because that's not why they are banned.

They are banned because they have the best initiations in the game. Additionally, Malphite stops your enemy ADC from doing any damage at all to anyone.

It's not the AoE CC, it's the method of delivery and the scale. Amumu almost instantly is in the centre of the team and stuns everyone. Malphite is similar, with a smaller radius but additional effects (effectively removing the enemy ADC).

Annie has **** range and Tibbers will rarely hit more then 2 people.

Cassiopeia has a melee ranged AoE cone that is not guaranteed to stun, and puts her in a lot of danger.

Leona will rarely stun more then 1 person, will often not stun anyone at all with her ult, and the combined duration of ALL of her CC focused on one person is often the equivalent and sometimes even less in duration then single skills (I.E. Fiddle's fear by itself is a longer lockdown then 3 of Leona's 4 skills combined).

Galio can be interrupted, especially annoying against on-hit stuns like Udyr's Bear stance, and he does not have the delivery of that ultimate that Amumu and Malphite have. He is reliant on Flash for powerful initiation. His ult is powerful, but it lacks the ease of use and consistency.

As a kind of secondary effect, Amumu and Malphite have very high damage for tanks. Galio does decent damage as well, but it's harder to land. Leona does almost no damage on her own.

Why arn't Annie, Cassiopeia, Leona and Galio banned too?
Annie = easy to counter

Cass = higher skill cap

Leona = Support, does nothing outside of her cc

Galio = Amumu without gapcloser

Malphite HURRRRRs you from a third of a screen away, over a wall, and also completely gimps your team's attack speed.

Amumu bandage tosses from a slightly shorter distance away, but is virtually guaranteed to disable 3-5 people on the enemy team given how large his ultimate is. He also has the advantage of bandage toss being on a relatively short cooldown, so he can easily zone out an enemy team by merit of just standing there.

Annie's tibbers is a great initiating tool, but unless the enemy team is clumped up so tight they're basically having collision issues, you're pretty much only going to stun two people at most, and generally the enemy squishies are going to be smart enough to hang back from the rest of the team.

Cassiopeia's ultimate is more of a counter-initiating tool, given how short it's range is.

Galio has to flash into the enemy team. Again, more of a counter-initiating tool.

Good luck getting anybody stupid enough to stand close enough to Leona to let her initiate.

Annie - requires her to build up stun and is very vulnerable in general.

Cass - hard to position for a great ult without getting killed unless someone else on team initiates with cc first

Galio - Generally requires a flash to position well for ult - people can flash out of ult just like nunu's.

Amumu has an instant aoe CC ult that can be itemized for solid damage.

Malphite offers additional CC in his kit and is a bane to anything that relies on ad.

Arguable; Shaco has gotten even harder to do well yet, and he's still regularly banned at 1800+ because a good Shaco will make you curl up in the fetal position and cry softly to yourself. Cassiopeia is at least marginally useful with most players, but Shaco either sucks or rapes face.

malp ult, mumu ult with bandage have much longer range than annie, cass, galio's ults(so they rely very much on flash which has long cd)

leona's ult has a delay and small radius
