Design Concept:
Ciana is an AP mage who can nuke by spamming her abilities, but, this is the least efficient way to play her. An efficient playstyle with Ciana utilizes trading the buffs/debuffs she gets from her own spells in order to maximize her sustained throughput. She has one utility spell with a soft cc and a unique effect which combine to help her and her teammates survive.

Abilities:
Attachment 514404Twin Suns (Passive)
Ciana's spells illuminate the area of their effect for 10 seconds after spell cast. Additionally, enemy champions hit by Ciana's spells are illuminated for 10 seconds, being revealed through the fog of war and revealing an area of 200 units around them for 10 seconds.

Attachment 514401[Q] Rising Sun
Type: AoE (circular)
Debuff: Rising Sun
Duration: 1 second
Amount: 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120 (+0.5 per ability power)
Range to Center of AoE: 550
AoE Diameter: 500
Delay: 0.75 seconds
Cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 mana
Cooldown: 6 / 5.5 / 5 / 4.5 / 4 seconds

Basic Ability Details:
Using the power of the Rising Sun, Ciana calls up a solar flame from the ground in a circular area. Rising Sun places a stack of the Rising Sun debuff on Ciana. Rising Sun refunds mana based on a percentage of the damage dealt depending on the number of stacks of the Setting Sun debuff on Ciana.

Specific Details:
Ciana's Rising Sun debuff increases the cooldown of Rising Sun by 0.5 seconds for each stack, stacks up to 5 times. Rising Sun refunds 0 / 5 / 10 / 15 / 20% mana increasing for each stack of Setting Sun. Using Rising Sun clears the Setting Sun debuff.

Visual:
Flames erupt in a sun-shape from the ground, swirling for a moment and then dissipating, leaving a glowing sun mark for a moment before fading entirely.

Attachment 514402[W] Setting Sun
Type: Skillshot (Linear)(AoE)
Debuff: Setting Sun
Amount: 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 (+0.6 per ability power)
Range: 900
Cost: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 mana
Cooldown: 6 / 5.5 / 5 / 4.5 / 4 seconds

Basic Ability Details:
Using the power of the Setting Sun, Ciana calls down a path of solar flame from the heavens in a straight line upon her enemies. Setting Sun places a stack of the Setting Sun debuff on Ciana. Setting Sun's damage is increased based on the number of stacks of the Rising Sun debuff on Ciana.

Specific Details:
Ciana's Setting Sun debuff increases the mana cost of Setting Sun by 5 for each stack, stacks up to 5 times. Setting Sun's damage is increased by 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50% for each stack of Rising Sun. Using Setting Sun clears the Rising Sun debuff.

Visual:
A glowing sun appears beneath Ciana's feet and flames fall down in one sheet in a straight line following the path of the skill shot. The fire lingers for a moment and then dissipates, the glowing sun fades.

Attachment 514403[E] Sun's Zenith
Type: Skillshot (Linear)
Debuff: Sun's Zenith
Duration: 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3
Amount: 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 (+0.8 per ability power)
Range: 700
Cost: 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 / 180 mana
Cooldown: 20 seconds

Basic Ability Details:
Calling upon the power of the Sun at its Zenith, Ciana shoots out a flare of solar flame that blinds the first enemy champion it hits and reduces the range of their spells while blinded.

Specific Details:
The Sun's Zenith debuff blinds an enemy champion for 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 seconds. In addition, the range of their spells will be reduced by 50% for the duration of the blind. The range on all target and skill shot spells will be reduced by 50%, with the range indicators on those spells properly reflecting the reduced range. If a spell is in motion when this spell hits, that spell will go its normal range.

Visual:
Ciana calls on the sun to empower her, she glows with a bright white-yellowish light and then shoots out a golden sunray in front of her.

Attachment 515567[R] Solar Equinox
Type: AoE Channel
Duration: 4 / 6 / 8
Amount: 50 / 100 / 150 (+0.5 per ability power) per second
Range: 100 (increasing each second)
Cost: 250 mana
Cooldown: 140 / 120 / 100

Basic Ability Details:
Ciana is empowered by perfect alignment of the sun. A glowing sun icon pulses beneath her feet and she becomes wreathed in flame as she begins to channel the spell. During the Solar Equinox, Ciana's enemies are blinded as the sun's power is diverted. The flames around Ciana grow, dealing damage to anyone standing in them during the duration and applying stacks of the Rising Sun and Setting Sun debuffs to them as well.

Specific Details:
Solar Equinox lasts for 4 / 6 / 8 seconds, during this time the map is dimmed and enemy champions can no longer see each other on the minimap if they are within 2000 units of Ciana. Additionally, their sight range is reduced to 400 for the duration. Enemies within 100 units of Ciana take 50 / 100 / 150 (+0.5 per ability power) damage per second that they stand near Ciana. Additionally, the field of damage grows by 100 units every second, the damage reducing by 10% for every 100 units, capping at 40% reduction.

Visual:
A glowing sun icon pulses beneath Ciana's feet, larger than the Setting Sun icon and brighter. Flames begin in the area of effect, swirling with vibrant sun colors and growing slowly as the spell grows.

Appearance:
Ciana is a young woman in her early twenties with unblemished skin that almost seems to glow with the light of the sun. She stands at roughly 5'7” with a slightly slim build but a fair bit of curves. The flair form her hip-to-waist ratio is rather dramatic and emphasized by the cut of the robes she wears. Her facial features are soft and warm with rounded curves instead of edges, and a rounded, petite nose. Her eyes are a warm-brown, kindled with a vivacious fire that almost seems to give them a reddish hue. Her lips are soft and red, full, but not plump. Usually they are pursed in a thoughtful expression. Ciana's hair is one of her more particular features. A fiery red in color with some stark, golden blonde streaks towards the tips. Her hair is wavy and full, falling down across her shoulders and ending about her waist. She wears a daring robe which is modest, but does not hide her dramatic figure. The robe chooses vibrant reds, oranges and yellows to represent the sun. While many robes tend to be reserved, Ciana's is almost like a dress with some ruffles about the waist at a slight angle and a bit of flair given to the wrists as well as the hem of the robe as well. The robe falls to her feet, but her toes can be seen peeking through as she wears open-toed white sandals.

Lore.
On the peak of Mount Targon lives a peaceful sect of the Rakkor known as the Solari. Though lacking in the powers of their founder, many Solari retained some small measure of knowledge and power over what they called “sun magic”. Ciana was born into the Solari and so was brought up in a life of scholarly learning, as opposed to the brutal fighting of the rest of the Rakkor. Early on Ciana's potential for “sun magic” was discovered to be quite high. She was sequestered away by the Solari elders, isolated from her peers and trained relentlessly so that she could grow her budding powers. It seemed to everyone that she would one day lead the Solari herself.

Then came the day that Leona inadvertently called upon the powers of the sun in her moment of need. None could ignore the powers of the Solari's founder invoked once more upon Runeterra and Ciana was virtually forgotten. Her purpose lost, Ciana fell into a brooding depression and nearly contemplated suicide. But Ciana's spirit was indomitable and her passion to live and to serve too strong. She began to practice her spells once more, teaching herself and learning from knowledge found in the most ancient texts that the Solari had. It was during this time that she discovered a secret of the Solari's founder: he had had an adviser with powers that nearly rivaled his own.

With this knowledge, Ciana foresaw her destiny to serve beside Leona. But, getting to Leona proved no easy task, for she was always busy or away, and, eventually, joined the League. Ciana was not going to shirk from her destiny, however, and she continued to practice with one goal in mind: become strong enough to join the League of Legends and show Runeterra, and Leona, that she was ready.

Detailed Bio
Ciana was born near the peak of Mount Targon amidst the ranks of the Solari. Unlike the rest of her brethren in the Rakkor, she led a privileged childhood free from the violence and fighting which symbolized the progression of age in their tribe. Ciana's days were spent learning and reading and worshiping the sun as her parents had taught her to do. She was, by all accounts, a well-behaved child and seen in favor among many. Ciana soon grew into a precocious young pre-teen whose personality was passion-filled, and that passion was directed at accumulating knowledge. The only adjective to describe her reading was voracious as she ravaged the ancient stores, reading day and night and sometimes sneaking some reading during the solemn sun rituals as well.

When Ciana entered into her teenage years she went through the Sol De Rieste ceremony, confirming her to be on the path to adulthood. During the ceremony, young Solari were tested to see if they held the potential for wielding sun magics. No Solari had ever shown the prowess over sun magic as their revered founder, but, generations of learning had passed down some knowledge, and through the bloodline of their founder it was that certain individuals were similarly blessed on a far lesser scale. It was through this lingering power that the Solari held their authority over the rest of the Rakkor, whom did not understand the Solari's pacifism, but accepted it because of the magic they wielded.

During the Sol De Rieste ceremony, Ciana showed far more potential with sun magic than had been seen in generations, perhaps since the founder himself. She glowed, as if with the power of the sun, and used surprisingly powerful spells, though she could not control them. At one moment during the ceremony, everyone in the room was temporarily blinded by a sudden flash from one spell strong enough to flare up and extinguish all other light in the room. The elders whisked Ciana into an isolated seclusion as they worked to help her develop powers that were far greater than their own.

This period of time was, perhaps, Ciana's loneliest. She had been cut off from her peers during a time when most were wooing and finding their potential mates, during a time in which most found their lifelong friends among the Solari. Ciana had never been particularly social, as she valued the company of a book far more than a person, but it was during this time of isolation that she became keenly aware of her lack of social contact and so desired it. The elders were not unfriendly to her though. In fact, their usual reserved, cold nature to others was often put aside for their warmer, more affectionate side in dealings with her. There were times, of course, when Ciana would be given a stern lecture, especially if she let slip in her studies a little, but Ciana was devoted to the cause and those moments were few and far between.

It looked to everyone that Ciana was poised to be the next leader of the Solari, that was until Leona showed up. News came rather suddenly from the Rakkor of a miraculous event where the powers of the sun had been unleashed in awesome force to save a teenage girl's life.

Suddenly everything that Ciana had gone through for the past several years vanished, literally overnight. She hadn't disappeared herself, but all of the elder's attention was spent on Leona. Ciana was fed and taken care of, but her lessons had suddenly stopped and no one cared where she was or what she was doing with herself. Depression hit Ciana hard. For the first time in her life she was not given the warmth, affection and praise that she was used to, and the sudden loss of it was bitter to take in.

Ciana had given up everything to serve the Solari in a higher purpose. She had no friends, she hadn't talked to her mother and father in years, though she loved them. For nearly a week Ciana barely ate or drank. She lay in her bed, her mind wandering over her options, suicide being the most morbid of them. But the spirit in her was too strong, her passion to live and to serve too great. As the week passed, Ciana's resolve slowly began to renew. She began to practice her spells again on her own. She ventured into the archaic parts of the library, reading, learning.

It was in this time that Ciana discovered a secret. Back when the founder had lived, his coming had awakened sun powers in not only himself but a number of other Rakkor. It was for this reason that he claimed Targon's peak and founded the Solari, to harness their sun powers. Most of the other Solari had substantially weaker powers than their founder, but one of them had strength enough to nearly match him. This individual the founder had taken and elevated to be his adviser, and, together, they led the Solari for many years.

Her purpose was laid out clear before her, and Ciana felt it was her destiny to be Leona's companion just as the founder himself had had one. However, Ciana ran into a virtual wall when trying to contact Leona. Leona was always busy or away. The Elders would meet with Leona and teach her, or Leona would be sent off as an emissary to one of the other nations of Runeterra, in order to showcase the power of the Solari. Every attempt Ciana made seemed to fail.

Leona eventually joined the League of Legends, and, after that, it was virtually impossible for Ciana to talk to her. However, Ciana had already fought depression and won. Her spirit indomitable, she continued to practice and harness her powers. She knew of one sure way to get Leona's attention: become powerful enough to enter the League itself.

Posted the initial lore for Ciana. I will probably update it a little more as I feel this lore does not yet give a true impression of Ciana's character, but it does start at it. :-)

Ciana is slated to be an AP mage. Perhaps there will be room for an AD sunlight male champ in my next set of champions!

V3tis will be excited to know that his suggestion has actually prompted me to think about Ciana's design and I will now be trying to design her to be able to fill one of two roles: an AP mid, or an AP/AD Carry sort of like Ezreal.

The abilities will be a bit delayed as I have to rethink them now. However, I have put up a sneak peak along with the ability icons.

Alright, added Ciana's ability details. Currently, I am quite certain that Ciana is ridiculously OP. I need your help. I want to keep the feel that Ciana has, where she can build to be either an AP Carry or an AD Carry and play slightly differently in each, while balancing her two abilities as either or, but, also be able to utilize both abilities effectively and still have some awesome nuke potential with certain cooldown combos. It's a tall order, but I'm hoping the community will help me on this because I feel like Ciana has the potential to be an amazingly fun champion.

In considering how I can make her less OP, I think I might take out the "buffs" that she gives herself and focus on making some really nice debuffs that can support either an AP build or an AD build. Thoughts?

Hopefully she's a little less OP now. I'm sure she could still use some heavy handed balancing, but, at this point, I think I'm definitely going to need some pointers.

Tomorrow I will hopefully update with an appearance section for Ciana.
