A popular set for AD carries are Attack Damage Quints, Armor Pen Reds, Flat Armor Yellows, MR / Level or Flat MR Blues.

The math from a reign of gaming blog post showed that ad quints + ad reds were the best choice until the enemy had 100 armor (basically everyone other than the tank).

For a basic and good steady AD runes, I would use Armor Penetration Marks (Reds), Flat Armor Seals (Yellows), and Attack Speed Glyphs or Magic Resist Glyphs (Blues) depending on what champion you want to use most for these runes. And you may choose AD quints or Armor Penetration quints, again, choose between these 2 depending on what champion you want to use most for these runes, and are best for them. I recommend using Magic Resist Glyphs when you want to use Garen a lot, thats because he is a good tank with some powerful moves in early game. If you want Attack Speed Glyphs, I recommend using those for lets say...Master Yi, Jax, Udyr, And so on. If you really want to jungle, here are some great jungling champions and don't cost so much IP: Jax, Master Yi (A Little Hard To Get Used To But He's A Good Jungler), Amumu, and theres much more great champions that can jungle but these are cheap ones. I think Amumu should be really highly recommended, because on my opinion, he's the best jungler! He can sustain well in jungle because he is a good tank, and he has good AoE abilities, Like his E Tantrum, and his W Despair. For all junglers I think you should really get always attack speed glyphs at least. Well that's really all I got for AD Runes, I hope this helps!!!

I've seen you repeat this before for Jarvan....but the math actually makes no sense.

Can you link it?

AD is generally only good if your total AD is low.

edit:

Found it.

I think you misread the post.

At 100 AD, we can see that the ArPen runes outshine the AD Marks from armor values of 15 to 91 armor.
It is exactly as I said. AD runes are only good if your base damage is low. If you are hitting for 100 point of physical damage or higher, Armor Penetration is better. The harder that you hit, the better Armor Penetration becomes. This means if you play an AD champ that harass with skills that hit for over 100 damage, armor penetration is better for damage.

Pretty sure that means for AD ranged carries, the only AD ranged carry that can benefit from AD runes becomes Tristana and Corki. Pretty sure all other AD ranged carries harass with skills that do over 100 physical damage.

However, the AD runes quickly become useless after you start buying damage item. Pretty sure even a Sheen or BF sword will make a difference.

You could argue that AD marks do more damage to objects building armor, but how often is your primary target the one building armor? Not often. You want the AP Carry or the rival AD carry, neither who are building armor beyond a late game Zhonya's for AP and maybe an early game Wriggles for the AD.

Everyone builds AD Quints for last hitting, though.

That depends on your champ, and what exactly you want to do doesn't it? It's very subjective. try asking something more specific like:

What would the best AD Carry runes before newchampofmine in a dominion game

cause that is WAY different then an AD Carry for oldchampofmine who thinks they can jungle.

:-)

Armor yellows, MR blues and armor pen quints are the standards. Whether or not you want AD reds or arpen reds depends on whether or not you want to do more damage early-game or late-game.

two other things to consider:
1) Alot of recent champions have abilities scale off of bonus AD instead of total nowadays; Riven being the ultimate example. Going AD runes not only buffs her damage, but the mitigation on her E as well, in addition to being wrapped up in her +%bonus AD on her R.
2) Last Whisper. All AD Carries should buy it. Flat ArPen contributes less when you have significant %ArPen, so if you opt for less flat ArPen try to get your Last Whisper earlier.
