RIOT GAMES BRINGS LEAGUE OF LEGENDS TO PAX 2009
Penny Arcade and Riot to Offer Exclusive Skin for Expo Attendees
LOS ANGELES — August xx, 2009 — Riot Games, an independent developer and publisher of premium online video games, will be bringing the highly anticipated online multiplayer session-based game League of Legends to the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) held September 4-6 in Seattle, Washington. The game will be shown and playable for the first time to the general public at booth #442.
Riot is providing the first 20,000 PAX attendees with an exclusive in-game reward: a redeemable code for a limited edition champion skin designed by Penny Arcade. All attendees that play League of Legends or visit the booth will receive a beta key. Top PAX attendee players will be invited for exhibition matches versus the Riot Games development team for a chance to win a selection of exclusive prizes.
“Riot has deep roots in the game and mod community, and fan feedback has influenced every aspect of League of Legends development,” said Marc Merrill, co-founder and President, Riot Games. “As an event devoted to celebrating the fans and culture of games, PAX is the perfect place for us to give many players their first hands-on experience with League of Legends and we look forward to having a ton of fun with the gamers who make the pilgrimage up to Seattle.”
League of Legends combines elements of the role-playing and strategy genres with addictive battle action that brings accessible, replayable and competitive gameplay into a whimsical universe that deepens with the player’s commitment. Built by a veteran development team and the original creators of DotA Allstars, one of the world’s most popular player-made mods, League of Legends is a unique and genre bending experience. The game will be operated as a live service that will be frequently updated with new features, champions, maps and additional content as suggested by the community.
A player in League of Legends takes on the role of a Summoner – a gifted spell caster who has the power to bring forth a champion to fight as his or her avatar. As the Summoner controls the champion in combat, he or she also influences the outcome of the match through the use of spells, masteries and runes. Once a match is over, the Summoner gains experience and Influence Points increasing in strength and gaining levels across battles. Players can also purchase Riot Points with real money to unlock Champions earlier and gain access to new Champion looks.
League of Legends will be available on October 6, 2009 for Windows PC via download at www.leagueoflegends.com and at retail outlets nationwide. GOA will release the game in Europe simultaneously. Open beta for League of Legends is set to begin in September.
