A New Challenger Circuit Event Arrives – IPL 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada!

Summoners!

IPL3: Origins saw a preseason battle royale between teams in Atlantic City, with $20,000 in collective prize money at stake as well as the title of IGN Pro League Champion. The competition moves to the next level this coming spring, when IPL 4 arrives at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets are still available from the IGN Pro League event site. Don’t miss your chance to watch this awesome event happen live!

v8 eSports, Against All Authority, Monomatic eSports and Curse Gaming have already earned the right to compete in IPL 4 through the online qualifiers. These four teams will join Team Dignitas, EpikGamer, Counter Logic Gaming, and Team Solomid – the top four finishers from IPL 3 – in Las Vegas to compete for an expanded prize pool of $50,000!

IPL 4 Tournament Schedule

With the field set, the eight teams will converge on the Cosmopolitan Hotel to determine who among them deserves the title of IGN Pro League Champion. The tournament lasts for three days – Friday, the 6th of April through Sunday, the 8th of April – and uses a double elimination format.
The double elimination, best-of-three tournament will see eight qualified teams compete against each other over three days. The teams in the upper bracket then face off against each other; every time one of them loses, it drops into the lower bracket to fight for its tournament life. Those in the lower bracket are eliminated if they drop a second match. The process continues until one undefeated winner emerges. That team will face off against the survivor of the lower bracket – the only team left with one loss – in the tournament finale. The undefeated competitor must be defeated twice in the final in order to lose the match, in keeping with the tournament’s double-elimination format. The one-loss finalist must triumph in two straight matches in order to claim victory.

Prize Money

The tournament carries a total prize pool of $50,000, divided between the eight competing teams. The winner receives the lion’s share of $25,000 (in addition to the title of Pro League Champion), but the remaining seven teams share in the winnings as well. Here’s a breakdown of the prize money by rank:

  • 1st place: $25,000
  • 2nd place: $12,500
  • 3rd place: $5,000
  • 4th place: $2,500
  • 5th place: $1,250
  • 6th place: $1,250
  • 7th place: $1,250
  • 8th place: $1,250

This new Challenger Event ups the ante on LoL tournaments and sets the stage for an exciting spring. Stay tuned for more information on brackets, streaming links, qualifier information and tournament details as we draw closer to the event.

Man I thought the title was first about a new challenger...but then I saw the uninteresting follow-up "Circuit event". Expected an exciting new champ post. Was delivered a chump post. Seriously all you guys have been talking about is tournaments recently. News has been really boring and slow the last few weeks. No new patches, no new champs. One skin. The fact that almost 20m later this post is only the 4th response means that Riot is in a pretty dry patch right now.

I thought this said "A new champion approahces," at first

:(

This is still cool though.

Agreed. Most people just don't care about this tournament stuff as it affects a tiny % of the userbase.
