[Expansion Idea] League of Legends: The Coming Storm

To those of you that do not know me I am Wulffe, caretaker of the Champion Index thread, author and subscriber to the short Building a Better Champion Guide For Dummies, veteran champcrafter, and member of the PCF Council.

Today I present something new, something unique to the Player Concept Community. Though the idea as a whole is still in development it features a new story in the League of Legends universe, dealing with both the rise and fall of a rebellious force, skins for participating champions on all sides and even a 6v6 storm the castle map and a 3v3v3 skirmish map.

Have I caught your interest? Then let me introduce you to League of Legends: The Coming Storm.

Tempest Swain, the Ethereal Sorceress (Character Concept)

Summary

Few know the truth behind some of the mysteries behind several events in Runeterra. The disappearance of General Du Couteau, the death of Grand General Darkwill, amongst many other assassinations, abductions and such were all due to the efforts of one being. Even the Kalamanda events would be placed on their shoulders.

The daughter of Jericho Swain was a skilled assassin who favored the magical arts. The few that know of her past believe that although she willingly did the deeds herself and often acted on her own accord, her actions were the results of her father's wishes. Though when she was captured he swore his innocence, condemning his daughter to several lives in stasis within the magical prison underneath the Institute of War.

Several years would pass before she could escape with the assistance of her former allies. On the way out she stole a case of artifacts that contained crystals whose magical properties repelled the summoner's magics. After rallying a small band of champions behind her, giving them each a crystal for their loyalty, she stormed Noxus under the veil of a storm and took the castle by surprise.

Swain, with his closest generals escorting him, fled Noxus to fight another day. They turned to the Institute who gathered a force of volunteers to battle the new threat. By then all of Runeterra was under siege with Swain's daughter leading the attack from High Command. From Demacia to Bilgewater, from Freljord to Bandle City, all of Runeterra became a warzone. With much effort and a stroke of good luck, the Loyalists and Allied Forces pushed back the Blood of Noxus forces.

The brains and muscles behind the operation would inevitably be captured by the joined might of Swain and Jarvan IV and bound to the Summoner's Code through the Institute of War. Afraid that she would manage to escape imprisonment again and try again, the council agreed to place her in the light and keep an eye on her at all times.

Gates of Noxus - 6v6
Name subject to change.

Objective:
Defend/storm the citadel.

Description:
Though the battle is over and done with, the Summoners at the Institute of War have managed to conjure up the battle to retake Noxus. From just outside the main gates, the invaders much breach three tiers of walls. The first two obstacles have two destroyable doors with mounted turrets while the third only has one door with two mounted turrets. The Loyalist nexus is protected by four turrets and from here champions can summon additional units at the cost of gold. Victory is claimed when either the High Command or the Loyalist/Allied Nexus falls.
Possible minion purchases: Siege Minions (bonus damage to walls, level 1, 2, 3), Support Minions (heals nearby minions and champs, level 1, 2, 3), Minion Commander (gives bonus attack damage to minions and champs, level 1, 2, 3), Deployment (Boots minion waves production for 1 minute), Catapult (one shot area of effect), and so on.

Gameplay:
The Blood of Noxus start at the citadel known as the Noxian High Command while the Loyalist and Allied Forces start just outside the gates at a transportable Nexus. The battle is underway immediately though not much can happen before the minions arrive. However, Team B (the Blood of Noxus forces) feels a bit cocky this match so they use the ascension pads that are located between the two sets of gates to descend from the top tier to the first, waiting for a preemptive strike. Where the ascension pads sit is the only place where (aside from the gates) that is small enough for players to jump from one side to another.

Unfortunately team A doesn't feel like skirmishing so soon, forcing team B to take refuge behind the walls once more when the minions arrive. Two of team A's members bought bare minimum in order to afford the level 1 siege minions from the tome near the Nexus in order to get an early start on the walls. While the siege minions are doing their jobs team B is using their pokes, AoEs, etc to kill them from behind the gate. In return, team A is doing the same, trying to keep them from attacking the minions.

The tier one gates fall with little effort after about 10 minutes of being wailed on (with little to no opposition). The teams are split 3v3 on each side. However, 2 of team B on the east wall decide they'll help the other side while their third members pokes and prods the minions and champs. Just as the two members from Team B are in position the three members on the otherside jump the wall, pinching 3 of team A's members. With them down, the other three members come in just in time to see team B retreat behind the walls once more.

Each wall takes a bit more time, making it no less than 30 minutes to get to if there is no one stopping the minions/champs. After this time they should be at the final gate where both sides come together. So team A rushes the gate only to end with an Ace for team B. Taking the opportunity, team B pushes out and order to put up makeshift walls (the makeshift walls and turrets take less and do less damage than the actual walls). If the enemy team is still down at this point they can even push towards their Nexus. Without their own minions, one person must be designated the tank so that the others can attack the turrets.

The battle is won after the Blood of Noxus forces are pushed back to their citadel, being chased by a wave of level 3 siege minions and two regular waves. After the last wall falls it's an open run to victory for team A.

Kalamanda - 3v3v3
Name subject to change.

Objective:
First to 1,000 resources wins.

Layout:
A cross between Summoner's Rift and Crystal Scar. The center of the map is a small village with a Nexus shard in the middle serving as a totem. There are three camps at the main entrances to the village. Blood of Noxus (Red, north), Loyalists (Purple, southeast), Allied Forces (Blue, southwest). There three routs that connect each camp but these only hold farmable creeps.

Description:
One of Tempest's first attacks was upon Kalamanda. It was there that the Blood of Noxus forces first encountered the Loyalist troops and both sides met the Allied volunteers. Not knowing that they were fighting for a common goal, the Loyalists and Allies met the new Noxians in a three way war over the resources in the area. Minion and champion kills provided resources though claiming the center post will gradually produce resources for the team that owns it. The turret at the center post can target up to two champions and those that own it receive a defensive bonus that increases their health, health regen, mana regen and magic resist.

Gameplay:
Similar to Crystal Scar, champions have a delay start to give them time to prepare for the coming battle. After the minute mark their gates open and the race to the middle begins. From here the teams can choose to do one of several tactics. First they can engage the other teams, they can wait while the other two teams engage and then pounce on the battered victor or get a jump on farming by clearing out the outlying lanes. There are three small camps, one between each nexus camp. Each of these 'shrines' give a small buff to offensive stats and make capturing the center point easier (provides no resource bonus). However, if the team takes the center the owned shrines become neutral once more. Let's go through an example game, shall we?

Team A (Allied Forces), team B (Blood of Noxus), team C (Loyalists) all begin the matching prepping and going over ideas as to what to do. Team B and C decide they are going to charge the center tower and take it by force. Team A decides they're going to push for a couple of shrines first. While B and C are tied up, A takes the opportunity to snag all three shrines simultaneously, a huge gamble that pays off on their part. As soon as those points are covered it's A's turn to enter the game.

By now C had been pushed back, leaving a battered team B to take the center. But team A took too long to enter the fray, giving the enemy team time to heal up and settle in thanks to the buff from the mid point. A and B are now tied up in the middle, fighting for dominance over the resource. It appears as if team C had stepped out of the battle for now. Though as both A and B started showing some wear and tear, two of C's team members arrive for clean up duty while the third member takes the shrines.

By killing the enemy champions, creeps and capturing the center the teams are gathering resources. When one side claims victory the yellow stone of Kalamanda (the turret's crystal) explodes and is replaced by a gem matching the color of the victor.

I'm biting.

How about "Siege Mode", or simply "Siege"? Just a quick suggestion.

Wulffe 11-27-2012 02:27 PM

Alrighty. It's presentable now. All of the above is subject to change as this is all a work in progress. I would like the community's input on this. If this becomes a success I'll be willing to draw a few select skins for custom champions featuring the creator's choice between an Allied Forces, Blood of Noxus or Loyalist skin.

So go on, share your thoughts!

That's actually more or less what the 6v6 is. Though I've filled in a bit more since you quoted it. :X

piiees 11-27-2012 05:21 PM

hmmm. interesting. with the 3v3v3 i reckon the team owning the centre should have a small buff of some sort as they will be defending a 3v6 pretty much.

Wulffe 11-27-2012 05:26 PM

I hadn't thought about the buff but it wouldn't hurt to have that! It also won't just be them going 3v6 cause if the other team comes in they'll be killing each other as well, even if it's just from AoE and skillshots.

I added in some example skin concepts for each faction.
