"Champion Tips" Thread

I think it would be a good idea to have a thread with the basics of every champ in a thread. You don't know your role as a specific champ? Dont know what map awareness is? What is the ideal item build? Take a look down below.

Input from everyone is welcome and will be added to each champion.

This thread has the idea to have everyone help out with their opinions and experience. The thread will become richer with more input, so keep it coming.

TL;DR - Think of it as a champion Quickie, in 20 seconds you have a general over view of each champion. Post your thoughts too.

Tips:

Example:

Champion Name: Udyr
Role: Jungler - Tank/Dps
Suggested item build: Tanky Items, including, but not only, Sunfire Cape, Banshee veil, Randuin, Merc threads.
Primary Targets: Carries, but focus on being in position to defend your carries and stun max targets possible.
Positioning: Initiate battles, stand infront, absorb damage, try to stun the largest ammount of targets possible.
Tips: ALWAYS jungle, tanky items allow him to have alot of survivability while still having a good damage output. VERY strong ganked with double buffs, make use of that, especially early game. Dont forget to constantly ward dragon and other important jungle areas throght the entire game.

Champion Name: Amumu
Role: Jungler - Tank, Initiator
Suggested item build: Tank items. Aegis of the Legion, Sunfire Cape, Abyssal Scepter highly recommended.
Primary Targets: Everybody. Amumu is an AoE machine, so spread the love. Oh, and be sure to strike all possible enemies to proc his passive and reduce their mag resist.
Positioning: In the middle of the enemy team. Use Bandage Toss to close distance and ult to keep pesky enemies in place.
Tips: Amumu is rather item-dependent (read: squishy) for a tank. Forgoing upgrades in favor of component items for other recipes (i.e. buying Negatron Cloak instead of finishing Sunfire) can be surprisingly effective. You should also hog golem buff if you aren't dying every team fight, Amumu will eat through his blue bar like a can of pringles.

Champion Name: Blitzcrank
Role: Support, Initiator, Chaser
Item Build: Support/tanky: Doran shield, Frozen heart, Soul Shroud, Banshee Veil, Situational defensive item.
Primary Targets: Carries, Squishy Support, any player out of position.
Positioning: ALWAYS initiate with a grab. Its sometimes smart to stick close to your squishies to Power Fist enemies who want to try and kill your squishies.
Tips: Blitz 101, Grab-Fist-Ult for the 1-2-3 combo. Remember that your AOE ult has a 0,5 second silence, making it perfect to cancel those pesky channeled ults for example. If you miss a grab, dont give up, keep pulling all game long. (the grab works through walls!) Power Fist deals double damage to structures, try working your E and W to take structures down pretty fast.

Champion Name: Katarina
Role: Nuker (Magic Damage)
Suggested Core Item Build: AP --> Doran shield, Sorc Boots, Mejai (only if fed), Rylai, Void Staff, Zonya, Defencive Item
AD --> Doran's Shield+Pot, Sorc Boots, Bloodthirster, Bloodthirster, Situational Defense Item.
Primary Targets: Carries and/or squishy Support
Positioning: Never initiate. Enter after your Tanks/Beefy Offense. Use Shunpo(E) to position your ult after the first wave of disables and profit.
Tips: It does not matter if you build Katarina AP or AD she will still deal magic damage, keep that in mind. Remember too, that shunpo(E) can be used to chase and escape! Killer Instincts (W) has a long CD, but it also has various uses, such as cutting down healing effects, reducing incoming damage and adding aditional damage to attacks and spells, use it appropriately.

Champion name: Kayle
Role: Carry/Support
Suggested item build: Dorans Ring+hp pot, Rageblade, Boots (merc), then either Nashor into more AP or Stark+Infinity. Banshee is good for survivability.
Primary targets: Burst squichy carries with Q followed by E, keep positioned in the back and dont forget to ult their target.
Positioning: Back-line. Both heal and ult have huge range. Use Q and E and target anything nearby when battle starts, preferribly carries/assasins.
Tips: Ult your carry! If not, ult their primary target! Rageblade allows solo jungling of buffs and dragon as soon as you get the item. Use W(heal) speed buff on yourself or others to allow chasing/escaping. Remember to Initiate your target with Q and follow up with E since he will take aditional damage. Finally, Kayle is VERY item dependent, so farm intensely for the first 20 mins of the game. Once you have your first pair of items dont be afraid to get elixirs in order to start pumping out humungus ammounts of damage.

Champion Name: Taric
Role: Support, off-tank
Suggested item build: Auras. Build items that buff your entire team such as aegis. Preferribly start with dorans ring, build a chalice if mana is being problematic. Buy TONS of wards.
Primary Targets: Enemy our of position, carry diving your team and your weakest ally. Your main role is simply being there and buffing your team. Heal(Q) the target which is getting focused and stun(E) enemy stragglers and carries.
Positioning: Be present in ALL fights, Auras do most of the work for you. Dont forget those heals they are game-breaking.
Tips: Taric is one of the best babysitters. His heal and stun can keep a weak laner alive far longer than he/she has any right to be. Alternatively, pair Taric with a champion that can benefit from being able to freely harass with almost no consequence for epic lane domination.

Champion Name: Teemo
Role: Carry, Anti-Carry, Blinder, Map Control
Suggested item build: Either Full AP: DFG, Zonya, Void Staff, or Full DPS: Starks, IE, Frozen Mallet, LW
Primary Targets: Dps Carries, Blind for the kill.
Positioning: At the VERY back, extremely squichy, but has a good damage output
Tips: Use your mushrooms(R) for excelent map control. Keep buffs, dragon, baron and popular bushes constantly shroomed. ALWAYS blind(Q) the dps carry, as it will potentially shut him down, at least temporarily.

Champion Name: Udyr
Role: Jungler - Tanky-Dps
Suggested item build: Tanky Items, including, but not only, Sunfire Cape, Banshee veil, Randuin, Merc threads.
Primary Targets: Carries, but focus on being in position to defend your carries and stun max targets possible.
Positioning: Initiate battles, stand infront, absorb damage, try to stun the largest ammount of targets possible.
Tips: ALWAYS jungle, tanky items allow him to have alot of survivability while still having a good damage output. VERY strong ganker with double buffs, make use of that, especially early game. Dont forget to constantly ward dragon and other important jungle areas throght the entire game.

Champion Name: Warwick
Role: Jungler - Dps, Pusher, Nuker, Chaser/Assassin
Suggested item build: Madreds, boots (merc/tabi), then survivability items including GA, Banshee, Randuin. Wit's end against full mana teams works very well with his ult, viable option if extra damage is needed.
Primary Targets: Nuke a carry, especially squichies with aoe ults like Twitch, MF etc.
Positioning: If needed, initiate, but try saving ult for carries. Once level 6 gank constantly with your ult, supression is very powerfull and usefull.
Tips: VERY fast jungler. Control the jungle, ward it, take dragons when possible, gank with your ult. Your AS buff is very usefull, especially when pushing towers and in teamfights. Don't forget your Q deals a % damage, so you do not need a ton of dps items to deal a good ammount of damage, survivability is very important on warwick, dont forget that.

Lunska 09-20-2010 05:04 PM

Champion Name: Tristana
Role: Carry/Pusher
Suggested item build: Always start with a Doran's Blade/HP Pot, if you are getting pushed too hard go for another Doran's, always rush for Inf Edge. The rest of the items are situational. But for the love of God, no Malady.
Primary Targets: Squishies primarily, Don't worry about the tanks unless you have Madred/Full Build
Positioning: ALWAYS be in back during the team fights, you have the range. Do not initiate a battle, EVER.
Tips: Tristana can be one of the highest DPS hitters if you allow her a full build, but she will always be squishy, NEVER get overconfident and think you can beat anyone 1on1, that's what your friends the tanks are there for. Always thank them for their help as well. Use your E to harass during the early game, it will quickly become useless during the late game except for the HP Regen Debuff. Always watch your mana. One Rocket Jump can mean the difference between life and death. Speaking of Rocket Jump, get creative with it, use it as a slow but only if the enemy is close to death. NEVER initiate a battle with it, it's a great escape mechanism. As far as your ult goes, ONLY use it on the enemy if you are sure they'll die from the hit, remember that you'll auto-attack once after the blast. It can also be used to send the enemy back to your tower/team (But make sure you don't mess up the angle) and to save your friend's life by pushing the chasing enemy away.

Let me try...

Champion Name: Amumu
Role: Tank, Initiator, Jungler
Suggested item build: Tank items. Aegis of the Legion, Sunfire Cape, Abyssal Scepter highly recommended.
Primary Targets: Everybody. Amumu is an AoE machine, so spread the love. Oh, and be sure to give everybody a love tap with your noggin to proc his passive.

Champion Name: Taric (arua)
Role: Support, tank
Suggested item build: Auras. Build items that buff your entire team.
Primary Targets: The closest enemy and your weakest ally. Your main role is simply being there and making the rest of your team super buff. Heal the dude getting focused and smack **** to recover mana and cooldown your heal.
Positioning: Just...around. Auras do most of the work for you
Tips: Taric is one of the best babysitters. His heal and stun can keep a weak laner alive far longer than he/she has any right to be. Alternatively, pair Taric with a champion that can benefit from being able to freely harass with almost no consequence for epic lane domination.

A Retarded Clown 09-20-2010 06:12 PM

Champion Name:Twisted Fate
Role: Support, Disabler, Pusher
Suggested item build: Either hybrid (statrt frozen mallet max out WC first for damage, then Rageblade, Lich Bane, Zhonyas and Either Manamune or Hextech Gunblade/Nashors tooth). or AD ( still start frozen mallet then stack BF swords after getting ur SotD, could also get a nashors tooth for CD red on ult and stun).
Primary Targets: The stealther/anyone running away You're a ganker, whenever u see someone kiting at half hp or running with 10 hp and summoner skills, go for it, though not for ppl with invulnerabity move like Kayle/Poppy/Vlad. Use ur brain.
Positioning: Always be at the very, very fringe of battle. U cannot afford to get too close for too long, even with the extra hp. The extra hp only helps u survive long enough to actually get some damage in.
When using ur ult..it might seem a good idea to ult where u think the enemies going to be, but usually best either on top of them or in a bush in the direction their going. Against ryze or any uber nuker with CC, always tele into a bush so he cant just target and rape before u can even touch him.

Wild cards + pac is for harass, u need to do it quick and get right out.

With AD positioning is more risky and ull need to stand there and try and get a few hits on them from time to time. Avoid CC at all costs.

Tips: As AD, u want to use ur RED CARDS. With AD/Crit...their damage is insane and they can CRIT. IE + PD + Another IE or another crit chance item will destroy with red cards.

AS Hybrid, u want to learn to use ur team mates to ur advantage, and find the 1 v 1's that are going OK or bad..and save face. Ward the place. With TF map awareness is his key and his support becomes best when coupled with even more map control. Ur not a carry or anything so spending a few 700 ish gold on wards can go along way. Cuz it can save YOU from death or ur team mates, and set up kills for them. That sissy vlad running in from mid to do a clean up job? Now you guys are ready for it and u can set up a nice little destiny gank while ur low hp team mates get their stuns ready in the bush.

malphismia 09-20-2010 07:00 PM

Champion Name: Malphite
Role: Jungler, Tanky DPS, Initiator
Suggested item build: Randuin's Omen, Youmuu's Ghostblade, Sunfire Cape/Banshee's Veil, Atma's Impaler
Primary Targets: Stun max enemy champions with ultimate, or save it especially for cancelling enemy channeling ults (Nunu's, Fiddle, Katarina). Use ground slam on DPS to debuff their AS
Positioning: Stand in front before teamfight, Initiate, Cut off escapes, Slow if any stragglers
Tips: Use your passive to soak up harassment laning phase, Use brutal strikes before ground slam to increase armor, therefore increasing damage on ground slam

Hiclic 09-20-2010 09:31 PM

Champion Name: Katarina
Role: Magic Damage Nuker
Suggested Core Item Build:
AD = Doran's Shield+Pot, Sorc Boots, Bloodthirster, Bloodthirster, Situational Defense Item
Primary Targets: Carries and squishy Support
Positioning: Never initiate. Enter after your Tanks/Beefy Offense. Use Shunpo to position your ult after the first wave of disables and profit.
Tips:
-No matter if you build Katarina AP or AD she is going to be doing a majority of MAGIC damage (the AD values are converted to AP damage for the ult and your AoE Q, yet applies physically to your Autoattack). 9 in Offense, Magic Pen Runes and CDR runes are very effective on Kat.

-Remember to use Killer Instincts situationally. It is your longest CD general use spell. If you're facing a Heal Comp her aoe heal debuff does wonders--not to mention ignoring the damage reduction per target hit. When fleeing, tower diving or creeping a shunpo damage reduction may help more. You may activate KI after your Bouncing Blade is launched and have it apply the effect as it hits. Alternately, if you use BB and shunpo the target before the blade reaches you will have reduced damage. Whichever strikes first applies the effect.

-You can shunpo to friendlies for positioning/juking/escape. Shunpo usually lands you behind your opponent on the line you traveled to reach them, this is helpful for avoiding directional ults (MF/Twitch).

-Death Lotus simultaneously hits one person at rank one, two at rank two, and three at rank three. It may be best to shunpo+ult on one or two priority targets than to ult in a dogpile when using rank one Lotus. Always keep in mind which squishies pose the greatest threat and keep them from reaching their potential early on.

-Using your Ult from the bushes, or from the other side of a wall, is great for reducing unwanted attention.

-Kat's Passive allows for a mini skill snowball in teamfights. If someone dies, you can immediately reuse your core abilities. If three or more opponents die you generally have your ult back. Abuse this wonderful trait.

--You are a great candidate for wards. By warding strategically you can afford a great range of movement in some situations--you can shunpo to them. The real bonus is your team play. Every 5 assists/kills is a ward anyways. While an expensive gimmick, you can even drop wards over obstacles and shunpo to them when escaping/chasing. It makes you look pro, and it can mean gaining 325 gold (a kill) or denying 300+g to the opponents. Only do this if you can really escape or get a kill. Wards cost money, and out of position wards rarely help anyone.

--Don't be afraid to buy Banshee's Veil. The wasted mana is better than a wasted Ult (if you're facing a lot of disables/low CD's). Kat does well with Randuin's Omen. It gives her everything she needs for survival (and some CDR) sans MR, and she can easily position the active in conjunction with her ult. Guardian Angel gives decent resist and the effect is always nice. Buy your defensive item based on your opposing team composition. A core piece of it (Like negatron cloak or Chainmail) can help a lot early game after your first/second BF sword, and be built into its intended item later. Use common sense.
