Why do people pick Annie over anivia?

Anivia can do everything Annie can do, with more survivability(egg). In the hands of equall skilled players anivia will roflstomp annnie so hard annie'll wish she was still in kindergarden.

Annie has: an aoe stun, every five spells, a pet with decent damage, three nukes, a damage return and + resist shield.

Anivia has an aoe stun EVERY NINE SECONDS, without cdr, two slows, one of the highest nukes in the game every five seconds before cdr, a teamfight deciding wall, and an egg which is basically a free life and can make you unkillable if used right.

Am I missing something here or is Annie really overrated?

Annie does everything Anivia does, but easier.

Annie has far more burst than anivia, she drops her load and someones dead.

With anivia you need to depend more on your team.. and most people solo Q so..

but yeah i prefer anivia over annie when i premade, and the other way around when i dont

Anivia is 6300 IP, Annie isn't.

People are going to downvote you because Annie requires little competence to play correctly. She's more "reliable" because once you get your stun, you faceroll your keyboard and instagib most squishies, whereas Anivia has to put some thought into her combos to instagib entire teams.

Anivia is better than Annie if the Anivia knows what he's doing.

Let us use a metaphor.

A vacuum is thirty pounds so only a man or a very strong woman can use it, though it has the same effect as:

A vacuum that is 5 pounds. Anyone can use it. Why would anyone use the heavy one? They wouldn't, because it is too much of a pain to use.

Fire > Ice

Simple pokemon logic my good man.

Annie has more survivability, actually. +50 to both armor AND magic resistance is NO joke, and her shield deals damage scaling with AP back to melee attackers.

Her 5 spells are all VERY spammable, and her farming ability completely wipes Anivia's farming ability off the table.

Her "pet" does incredible damage upon landing - anything after that is just gravy. It's also a great way to chase down weak opponents while you focus on a different champion. It can be used to cut off enemies, chase champions, and tank turrets. It can also be used to scout into bushes and remove the threat of mushrooms and the like.

Anivia's AOE is amazing because it scatters champions, but if you aren't in it when Anivia casts it it's easy to dodge. Her wall is completely countered by fast-move, escape mechs and can backfire quite often if opponent packs Flash. It's a wonderful skill that loses purpose late-game, when all champions travel in packs and the tank always goes in first. Moreover, if you're aware of her abilities it's easy to avoid Flash Frost. And if you miss your initial nuke then you have no followup and there is a period of 4-5 seconds where you're easily taken out of a fight. Anivia also requires blue buff to be effective over a period of time; Annie can afford to give blue buff to someone who might need it more (amumu, for example).

Also, merc treads severely reduces the effectiveness and range of Anivia's combo.

The only thing Anivia has over Annie is tele-egg escape. This takes nothing away from Anivia by comparing her to the best caster in game. Anivia is still the second best choice after Annie imho.
