Zeon vs Piltover

alright, so Demecia vs Noxus is well defined in Noxus being a meritocracy and Demecia being some sort of weird fascist

but Zeon vs Piltover isn't that defined. Only difference between them so far is that Piltover has limits on their scientific progress whereas Zeon doesn't.

To be fair, their lore is not addressed as much as Demacia and Noxus. But yes. "Pitlover progress" has almost zero information present in terms of how its government actually functions, but it's known to have a bunch of fairly strict laws. This being good or bad is not mentioned. Zaun is mentioned to have more lax laws that often come at the cost of its citizens (they allow the abduction of Zaunite citizens for experiments - Dr.Mundo's lore) and mass pollution that is so bad it creates areas humans cannot be around. "Zaun progress" is basically, "get ahead by any means".

To be fair, when comparing the two, I'd like to know more about Pitlover's lore first.

Jebus, I went into this thread thinking "What the hell does Gundam have to do with Piltover?!"

Anyways, the difference between the two is that Zaun's type of progress also creates alot of hazardous conditions for them and their surroundings while Piltover seems to take into account their surroundings into their type of progress. I guess you could liken their relationship to philosophy.

While both Zaun and Piltover use magic, science, and techmaturgy to advance their societies, they go about it with very different ideologies.

Zaun believes individuals should be allowed to do what ever they want without restrictions. Personal and financial freedom is the most important virtue to them above all others. In this regard, they're the epitome of unregulated capitalism.

Piltover believes that people collectively should be doing what ever they can to care for one another. Instead of using their scientific innovations for themselves, they use it for the betterment of others, the environment, and the world in general. In this regard, they're the epitome of what a cooperative socialism should be.

A video of what Piltover is in a nutshell, or at least what they strive to be:

Zaun:. We do science because we can and its cool. Where the mad and evil scientist roam.

Piltover: We do science to progress. Where the book smart nerds roam.

Stop spreading that rumour, Zaun actually has laws too against abductions and killings. Mundo was not allowed to go free, it's that Zaunites could not prosecute and arrest him because they couldn't find sufficient evidence to charge Mundo with, in fact they can't even find the victims' bodies, Mundo cleans up way too well. It's VERY difficult to prosecute someone for homicide when you can't even confirm if the person is dead or alive.

Anyways, Piltover lives in a 'guided' world, where laws and restrictions are made to 'guide' scientific research. As for Zaun, they believe in free will, that people should be free to do anything as long as what they do does not put harm to others (Blitzcrank was declared to be sentient and his own person), they are very critical and highly opposed to restrictions, especially on scientific research. Both states are republics where their government officials are voted in, only difference is that the Zaunite government has much less power than Piltover.

Well Piltover is starting show it's signs of greyness with Orianna, imagine if someone else in piltover thought about the potential of clockwork and starts augmenting himself seemlessly.

Actually that sounds like and idea. A man who seeks the singularity to overcome magic...and at what cost?

Firlyean 11-14-2011 10:17 AM

Orianna is completely different. The clockmaker's daughter died, so he basically created a clockwork robot and fed her Orianna's memories.
